Happy First Day of Fall!

Today’s Doodle celebrates the first day of Fall in the Northern Hemisphere! The “season of mists and mellow fruitfulness,” as English poet John Keats once described it, brings an end to the long days of summer and the beginning of the harvest season. In the autumn equinox, night and day are about the same. Then, in the northern hemisphere, the day will decrease and the night will increase, until the latter reaches its peak in the December solstice. “To bend with apples the moss’d cottage trees / And fill all fruit with ripeness to the core.”
