Voice Guidance by Google Maps

Posted on October 14, 2019 12:53 PM

Google Maps is rolling out a new feature that gives people the ability to receive more detailed voice guidance and new types of verbal announcements for walking trips. This feature is the first in Google Maps to be built from the ground up by, and for, the 36 million people worldwide with vision impairments. With this feature, people can navigate the streets with more comfort and confidence. Google Maps will proactively let people know if they are on the correct route, the distance until the next turn and the direction they are walking in. As they approach large intersections, they will get guidelines to cross with added caution. And if they accidentally leave their route, they'll get a spoken notification that they're being re-routed.
